Maria Caravati, Equinox Botanical Boutique, 5901 Sixth Avenue-A
Q. How did you get your idea or concept for the business?
A. Wellness for people, our planet has always been the driving force, my passion. Quite honestly it was a natural transition for my business to evolve into INCLUDING plant therapy as I have been living it my entire life. Even when working in “corporate America in Chicago” many moons ago, my wellness regime included plants, working with soil, growing my own food for family but also to attract beneficial insects and birds. It was on a very small scale in comparison to my growing style today but the seed was planted at my birth from my father who was an avid gardener.
Fast forward. I realized the importance of teaching people to not only grow their own food but due to the crazy increase of hours people are indoors, to bring specialized service of bringing nature indoor.

Q. What products and services do you provide?
A. Equinox botanical boutique’s products consist of essential body care, Eminence Organic Skin Care, houseplants, seasonal herb and vegetable plants (most of which I grow organically in my home). We have plant supplies including organic insect control and fertilizers, soils, pots. We carry super awesome products to help clean the air in our home and work space such as specific plants as proven affective by NASA, 100% beeswax candles. We carry white sage smudge bundles as well as the plants(to make your own bundles) seasonally to help purify the air of negative energy. We have lovely local artists pottery which will sure bring a smile to your face or that of a gift recipient. Macrame plant holders made by a local artist add that perfect touch to create a perfect botanical ensemble. Our Italian pottery made in the Tuscany region are simply gorgeous, and durable like no other pottery we have found.
Newly added are some fun Faire Trade items, botanical greeting cards. Papparadelle’s Pasta has found it’s way into our boutique. The fine art of pasta. Pasta as art? Indeed! Their pasta is produced with the same care and attention to detail that artists use when taking paint to canvas or chisel to stone. Pappardelle’s pasta is a true artisanal food. And what exactly is an artisanal food? It is made by hand, using the finest-quality ingredients available and following traditional methods of production. I LOVE pasta, but it has to be exceptional. This is it!
Services include massage and facial therapies but due to Covid-19 are not able to accept new clients. Plant therapy services include home and business plant consulting and maintenance, re-potting, classes for growing and maintaining all plants indoor and outdoor with specialty being in edible (vegetable and herb) houseplants. Harvesting, overwintering, maintaining and cooking classes are resuming with limited capacity.
We offer curbside pickup and local delivery.
Q. What do you love about Downtown Kenosha? .
A. Having been downtown for 20 years I still absolutely adore it’s diversity. The collective vibe of our small business community is like no other part of the city. And of course being so close to the lake is spectacular. The people who love, believe and support our downtown community (and there are so many!) are so fantastic! They have been with us through thick and thin and will forever be in my heart.
Q. How would you describe your business to a potential customers?
A. If you want to instantly feel calmness, peace and feel like yeou’re in a tropical paradise please visit our botanical boutique. We make everyone feel welcome and strive to give exceptional service to all who enter.
Q. What do you offer that stands out from other shops?
A. I think this question would be great if asked of our customers, but it has often been said our plants are of exceptional quality, unique and offering of care and maintenance instructions are always easily available. It’s just one of the benefits of a small business where the customer receives very specialized attention.
The combination of all our services and products are unique to the entire southeast Wisconsin/northeast Illinois.
